As followers of Christ, we are called to live differently from the world around us. That includes being mindful of the things we allow into our homes, our lives, and our hearts. While objects themselves aren’t inherently evil, some carry spiritual baggage, symbolic meanings, or associations that can negatively impact our faith. 1. Occult Objects (Tarot Cards, Ouija Boards, Crystals for Energy)
These items are often marketed as harmless tools for self-discovery or healing, but many are rooted in occult practices and spiritualism. The Bible clearly warns against divination and seeking supernatural guidance outside of God.
“Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritist, for you will be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God.” – Leviticus 19:31
Why avoid them?
These items open doors to spiritual deception and can lead people away from trusting God’s voice and guidance.
2. Idols and Statues Used in Worship
While art can be beautiful, Christians should be cautious about religious statues or idols used in worship, especially if they come from other faith traditions or cultures where they’re revered as gods.
“You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself a carved image…” – Exodus 20:3-4
Why avoid them?
God calls us to worship Him alone. Having idols can subtly shift our focus from a personal relationship with Jesus to empty rituals or superstition.
3. Symbols Tied to False Religions or the Occult

4. Dark Entertainment Memorabilia
Posters, books, or merchandise from horror movies, violent games, or shows that glorify the demonic can negatively affect your spirit. What we allow into our environment shapes our thoughts and spiritual atmosphere.

Even if “it’s just entertainment,” the enemy often uses these as subtle ways to desensitize us to evil.
5. Lucky Charms or Superstitious Items
Whether it’s a rabbit’s foot, a lucky coin, or a bracelet meant to “protect your energy,” Christians should stay away from placing their trust in objects for good fortune or safety.
“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.” – Psalm 20:7

Our trust should be in God alone, not in objects or rituals.
6. Books Promoting Witchcraft or New Age Beliefs
Books that teach spell-casting, energy manipulation, astrology, or manifesting apart from God’s will may seem like self-help, but they promote a worldview opposed to Scripture.

Sometimes items bought from thrift stores, foreign countries, or spiritual markets may have been used in rituals or dedicated to false gods.
Why avoid them?
There are testimonies of Christians experiencing oppression or unease until such items were removed from their homes. If the Holy Spirit prompts you to get rid of something, listen.
Stay Spiritually Alert
As Christians, we’re called to discern what is good and reject what is evil. This doesn’t mean we live in fear, but rather in awareness. The Holy Spirit is our guide, and if something doesn’t sit right in your spirit, pray about it and ask God for clarity.
“Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.” – Ephesians 5:11
