In today’s culture, where sensuality and self-indulgence are glorified, Christians must not be ignorant of the spiritual forces at work behind the scenes. One of the most insidious spirits infiltrating the body of Christ is what many refer to as the “Jezebel spirit.” This is not just a historical figure, it’s a spiritual influence that still seeks to seduce, manipulate, and destroy.
Let’s uncover the biblical origin of Jezebel, examine how this spirit manifests through lust and sexual sin, particularly through masturbation, and close with a sobering warning to the Church.
The Origin of Jezebel in the Bible
Jezebel first appears in 1 Kings 16:31, as the daughter of Ethbaal, king of the Sidonians, and the wife of King Ahab of Israel. From the moment she enters the narrative, she begins to lead Israel into idolatry, encouraging the worship of Baal and Asherah. Jezebel was not only manipulative and domineering, but she also persecuted the prophets of God, attempted to silence truth, and corrupted the spiritual life of the nation.
She embodied rebellion against God’s authority, the seduction of false worship, and unrepentant wickedness.
Jesus Himself references Jezebel again in Revelation 2:20, rebuking the church in Thyatira for tolerating “that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess,” and who “teaches and seduces My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols.” This isn’t about the historical Jezebel, long dead, but a spiritual force still active in the Church, leading believers astray through sexual sin and spiritual compromise.
Jezebel’s Grip Through Lust and Masturbation
One of the most potent tools the Jezebel spirit uses in our generation is lust, and more specifically, the secret sin of masturbation.
While the Bible doesn’t mention the word “masturbation” directly, it does speak clearly about sexual purity. Jesus said in Matthew 5:28, “Anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Masturbation, almost always fueled by pornography, fantasy, or lustful thoughts, becomes a gateway for unclean spirits to gain influence in a person’s life.
This is where the Jezebel spirit thrives, not in open rebellion at first, but in the quiet, secret sins that seem harmless yet erode spiritual authority and intimacy with God. Masturbation can become a form of self-idolatry, a focus on personal pleasure rather than obedience and holiness. Jezebel seduces by telling believers, “It’s not that serious,” while slowly numbing their conscience and defiling their spirit.

The Detrimental Effects of Jezebel’s Influence
- Spiritual Deadness – Continued indulgence in sexual sin leads to a loss of sensitivity to the Holy Spirit. Worship becomes shallow. Prayer becomes weak.
- Shame and Guilt – Masturbation often produces a cycle of pleasure, shame, repentance, then return, keeping believers in bondage and self-condemnation.
- Distorted Identity – Jezebel attacks your identity. Instead of walking in the confidence of being a child of God, people caught in this sin often feel unworthy, fake, or powerless.
- Relationship Damage – Lust creates unrealistic expectations, damages marriages and dating relationships, and distorts how we view others, as objects, not souls.
- Spiritual Authority is Stripped – The enemy knows that a compromised believer is a powerless believer. Jezebel’s goal is to neutralize your witness and kill your calling.

A Final Warning to the Church on Jezebel
Beloved, this is not a game. The spirit of Jezebel has invaded churches, pulpits, youth ministries, and homes. It thrives in secrecy, silence, and tolerance. Jesus rebuked the church in Thyatira not for engaging in sin, but for tolerating it.
If we do not address this spirit, if we continue to downplay lust, excuse sexual sin, and treat masturbation as “normal,” we will see an increase in spiritual deception, moral failure, and powerless Christianity.
Jezebel wants your voice silenced, your purity corrupted, and your purpose destroyed.
But there is freedom in Christ. The blood of Jesus is greater than any sin, and the Holy Spirit gives power to overcome every temptation. Repent. Renounce. Resist. Cut off access points, pornography, fantasy, sexual media, and invite the Holy Spirit to cleanse your heart and mind.

Final message
To the Church: Wake up. Guard your heart. Stop tolerating Jezebel.
To the individual struggling: You’re not alone, but you must fight.
Holiness is not legalism. It’s liberation from bondage.
“Therefore, cleanse yourselves from everything that defiles body and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.” – 2 Corinthians 7:1
Don’t wait for the battle to become a war.
Cast out Jezebel now, before it’s too late.
