There’s a war raging against every Christian right now , Yes, it’s a demon called secular music, and it’s not just entertainment as some might call it, it’s spiritual warfare in disguise. It’s not just after our time or our attention, It’s after our soul. In case you haven’t gotten the revelation yet, one of the enemy’s most subtle, yet powerful, weapons are playing through your speakers right now. It’s wrapped up in catchy beats, smooth vocals, and chart-topping hits.
Let me say this plainly and hope this serves as a warning and revelation to all who read this: Not every song is just a song. Not every artist is just an entertainer. Not every beat is harmless.
Music Was Created by God—But Twisted by the Enemy
Music didn’t start with man. It started with God.
In heaven, Lucifer was the worship leader. Ezekiel 28:13 describes him as having instruments built into him, he was literally made for music. But when pride entered his heart and he fell, he didn’t lose his musical gifting. He perverted it as one of the ways to bring down the kingdom of God.
Today, still because of his pride Satan is still using music, but not to glorify God, instead, to infiltrate hearts, twist minds, and desensitize spirits.
He understands something many Christians don’t: music bypasses your conscious defences and goes straight to your soul.
Hence twisting the minds of the human race to instead use their music gifting to glory God, but instead creating secular music that leads many astray.

Music Programs the Mind
Think about it, how many song lyrics can you remember word-for-word? Probably more than you can recall scripture. That’s not by accident. Music imprints itself into your brain like spiritual graffiti.
When you listen to secular music filled with:
- Sexual immorality– as most of these artists sing about love from a view of fornication and lust and objectifying women and men.
- Violence– it is no secret that most of these rappers promote gang violence.
- Pride– some artists are really in the business to sing/rap about what they have and how they earned it without acknowledging God, its all about sell glorification.
- Rebellion– these days artists aren’t even afraid to mock God or use His name in vain in their lyrics and videos or even speeches.
- Occult symbolism- be it in concerts, videos or fashion statements the name of Satan is being praised by these secular musicians.
- And blasphemy– I can’t emphasize this enough on how artists mock the name of God and think it’s funny or entertaining.
you are meditating on those things, whether you realize it or not. Philippians 4:8 tells us to think on things that are pure, lovely, noble, and praiseworthy. Secular music often glorifies the exact opposite. And yet Christians are always wondering why they can’t give up their pornography addiction, lustful thoughts, are always anxious and depressed you name it.
Music Opens Portals
Music is a form of worship. Every time you press play; you’re choosing who you’re worshipping, God or the enemy.
It is no secret that many artists have openly admitted they’ve “sold their soul” for fame. Others talk about channeling alter egos or “spirits” when they perform.
That’s not metaphor or something to celebrate. That’s spiritual. Demonic spirits ride sound waves.
Just like God’s presence can fill a room during worship, so can the demonic when music carries their message. Hence you see some strange behaviors at concerts.
You wouldn’t let a demon walk into your house, so why let one in through your playlist?

Compromise Has a Cost
Some Christians say, “It’s just a song,” or “I only listen for the beat.” But it is important to remember that the devil doesn’t care if you’re singing the words or just vibing to the rhythm, as long as he’s got your agreement to what he has produced, that’s all he needs.
Another important factor to remember is that compromise starts with entertainment and ends in entanglement.
What you feed your spirit will eventually shape your desires, your mindset, and eventually your walk with God.
Let me also add that regardless of whether the music lyrics are uplifting or offer “self encouragement” or “healing” , they are still not good for the soul, because they are about self gratification instead of pointing us to the one who can take all the pain away, Christ Jesus.
You can’t fill your soul with the world’s soundtrack and expect to walk in the power and purity of the Holy Spirit and use your life and gifts in the alignment of God’s will.

Come Out from Among Them
This isn’t about legalism, it’s about Lordship. Who truly rules your heart? Your playlists reveal your priorities.
2 Corinthians 6:17 says, “Come out from among them and be separate,” says the Lord. “Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.”
God is calling His people to purity. He is refining His Bride. And one of the most overlooked areas of compromise is secular music.
But then still there is an argument of even some gospel musicians not living the proper lifestyle that represents the Kingdom of God as we have seen some downfalls in the recent past.
My advice for you will be; use discernment on what you choose to listen to and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you to what is True and what is Holy, as I can also agree that not every gospel artist is in it to glorify God, some are just in it for the fame and fortune.
Ask Yourself:
- Does this song glorify God or glorify self?
- Would I play this in front of Jesus?
- Is the Holy Spirit grieved or glorified by what I’m listening to?
If the answer convicts you, that’s Grace. That’s the Holy Spirit drawing you back.
What You Should Do Now
- Repent. Ask the Lord to forgive you for allowing unclean influences into your life secular through music.
- Cleanse your library. Go through your playlists. If the Holy Spirit nudges you, delete it.
- Replace with worship. Fill the void with anointed, Christ-centered music. There’s powerful worship out there that carries heaven’s atmosphere.
- Guard your ears. Be intentional about what you allow to feed your soul. What goes in will eventually come out.
What Sound Are You Aligned With?
In these last days, God is looking for people who will worship Him in spirit and in truth as he prophesied in John 4 vs 23 not people who straddle the line between holy and worldly.
That is, being a lukewarm Christian, of which the bible warns us in Revelation 2vs 15-16 that those that act this way will not inherit the kingdom of God.
You weren’t made to echo the culture as Romans 12vs 2 reminds us. You were made to carry the sound of heaven.
Let go of the counterfeit. Tune your heart to the frequency of the Spirit. And watch how God transforms your atmosphere, starting with your sound.

I believe this is an important topic and calls for the Holy Spirit’s discernment. I like old hymns and contemporary music as well as secular music and classical, but I look for God and beauty in it.
Amen, it’s a call for the Holy Spirit’s discernment.
Insightful post. What do you think about gospel music having very similar sound with secular music? Is it a trend of trying to belong or just how the story goes.
I believe the bible tells us in Romans 12 vs 2 to not conform to the patterns of the world. It is sad that some gospel musicians have fallen to the traps of the enemy of wanting to be performers instead of worship leaders for the kingdom of God. It is our job as Christians However to continue to pray for the music industry, to pray that everyone blessed with the voice of singing only sing for the kingdom of God and lead others to Christ with their voice of worship.
