We all want to hear the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant,” from the Lord. But in today’s culture, many are redefining what it means to be a Christian, without anchoring their understanding in Scripture. Worse still, some misquote the Bible to justify a lifestyle that contradicts the teachings of Christ. A person we Call a Lukewarm Christian.
This is not only misleading for non-believers, but dangerous for baby Christians who may be influenced by a false gospel. As mature believers, we have a responsibility to rightly divide the Word and seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit, not just rely on our own understanding or follow popular trends.
Revelation 3:15-16 (NIV) warns:
“I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm ,neither hot nor cold , I am about to spit you out of my mouth.”
God does not desire half-hearted Christianity. You’re either all in or you’re not. Being lukewarm leads to confusion, compromise, and spiritual stagnation. If you’re unsure where you stand, here are five signs that you may be a lukewarm Christian.
1. You Pick and Choose When to Express Your Christian Values
We all want to be liked. But the truth of God’s Word isn’t something we can turn on and off depending on the audience.
Unlike personal opinions or feelings, biblical truth is not up for debate. It’s God’s revealed way to live a life of freedom, joy, and relationship with Him.
Galatians 5:1 (NIV) says:
“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”
Hiding your faith to avoid judgment is a form of self-imposed bondage. If you truly believe in the freedom Christ offers, live boldly and speak openly about it.
2. A lukewarm Christian follows trends Even When they aren’t Christ-Centered
Social media gives us the opportunity to connect with others, but not all trends align with Christian values.
Before participating in viral challenges or popular content, ask yourself:
“Does this glorify God?”
“Would someone know I’m a Christian even if I never posted a Bible verse?”
If your online presence reflects the world more than Christ, it may be time to reevaluate what you’re allowing to influence you.
3. A lukewarm Christian Post Scripture, but Doesn’t Live by It
Sharing verses is easy. Living them out is the real challenge, and the true measure of faith.
Many can quote Scripture or share devotionals, but their lifestyle tells a different story. This inconsistency not only damages your witness, but can also mislead others seeking God.
1 Corinthians 3:9 (NIV) reminds us:
“For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.”
We are God’s representatives. Let your life reflect the Word you claim to believe.

4. Your Love for the Christian Life Is Conditional
Do you follow God only when it’s convenient? Or when you expect Him to bless your plans?
True surrender means trusting God not just as Creator, but as Lord over your decisions, relationships, and future, even when it doesn’t align with your preferences.
Psalm 37:23 (NIV) says:
“The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in Him.”
Don’t be a Jonah, resisting God’s direction until you hit rock bottom. Faith isn’t about what God can do for you; it’s about who He is and what He desires to do in you.

5. You Live a Prideful Life Instead of a Humble One
Pride can take many forms: boasting about blessings, seeking recognition, or even preaching with a “holier-than-thou” attitude.
But Jesus modeled humility , He washed His disciples’ feet to demonstrate servant leadership and the heart of true Christianity.
John 13:14-15 (NIV) says:
“Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.”
If your faith is more about your image than your impact, it’s time to reflect. Christianity is not about glorifying self but about pointing others to Christ.
Final Thoughts: Choose to Be All In
Being a lukewarm Christian isn’t just spiritually risky, it distances you from the fullness of life that God wants for you.
Evaluate your walk. Are you living boldly for Christ, or just blending in with the world? It’s not too late to recommit fully to your faith, seek accountability, and let the Holy Spirit transform every area of your life.
Don’t settle for a halfway relationship with God. Choose to be all in , not just in what you say, but in how you live.
