IS THE PURITY MOVEMENT JUST A TREND?

Let me first start by admitting that I am a huge Christian vlogger addict lol.

It’s really reliving for me to come across girls/women on YouTube who take time to share and talk about the same belief systems that I do and it really gives me hope to know that they can be practiced and it is possible.

As I continue to watch their videos, I have noticed a very profound pattern in all this, which is; they all have the “why I am saving myself for marriage video”  or the “why we saved ourself for marriage video”

And an even further observation is that nine times out ten that’s their most viewed video with some using even the same exact little quirks that the last person did.

This had me thinking; are these videos really made from the revelation that God gave them or is it just seen as a Christian youtuber thing to do, even further, are they just doing it for the views.

 Please note that I am in no way shape or form bashing Christian youtubers or saying that the information they put out is fake or for clout.

In fact, it really brings me joy to see that a lot of people really want to know more about purity

In as much as they show us and talk about things of God and just like you, more times than not, I also feel very close to them and believe in what they say as if a sister was talking to me

 Again, I’m not writing this because God gave me a revelation that some Christian vloggers are fake noooo lol.

 This is more of me asking you to question how intimate your relationship is with God before you blindly accept to follow something because someone else “says” they are doing it.

But first let’s get this off the way, sex before marriage for a Christ believer regardless of gender has always been a sin and forever will be.

 As much as people are now making it seem like it’s supposed to be something trendy (like a new hairstyle or new bag on the market)

I do however, appreciate that at least for once there’s something positive that people are pushing forward.

But yet again, blindly following something because a more prominent figure is doing it without a deep understanding of what it really means

Or the significance behind it is really dangerous regardless if you’re a believer or not.

In fact by watching these videos, it should only serve as confirmation on what God has placed on your heart

 That’s why it is important to ask yourself these questions before you fully immerse yourself in the purity movement.

I’M I IN IT FOR THE LONG TERM– we live in a world were trends change faster than seasons lol

If today this movement is not as popular or “trendy” as it is now and people pull themselves away from it

Will you still be front and center defending your beliefs and sticking with the decision to remain pure before marriage? Or just follow the crowd?

  WHY IM I PERSONALLY STAYING PURE– as much as we follow and want to keep ourselves up with what the Christian vloggers are engaging in/ practicing, it is also important to remember that they are not God.

The most embarrassing answer you can give to someone if they asked you why you are staying pure is “because so and so are also doing it”.

Perhaps they are doing it because we would like to believe they have a close relationship with God; so then how close is your relationship with Him?

Which leads me to my next point

I’M I GETTING CLOSER TO GOD– before you fully commit to something please remember that when we do something outside God’s guidance, it feels forced hence you easily get frustrated and are likely to give up

Don’t get me wrong staying pure before marriage isn’t an easy thing it takes a lot of discipline and prayer

Because the real reason for this is God teaching us how to stay pure and faithful to our spouse for the long run (till death) or even better how to obtain salvation draw closer to God

But with God’s hand and protection in this journey, it makes things a lot easier. So, if you feel like this decision is frustrating you and you can’t seem to get it right

You really need to commit your life to God ask Him to guide you through it and not do it based on the guidelines you saw on YouTube because at the end of the day, it’s God who created us

 He knows what easily tempts us and what doesn’t and we are not all tempted by the same evil tactics in the same way, your trigger point may not be the next person’s trigger point.

            HOW THEN SHOULD US CHRISTIANS GO ABOUT THIS

Proverbs 4vs 23 says “above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it”.

It is important as a Christian not to just take someone’s word for something just because they insert God’s name into it.

Protect your heart, mind and soul and be extremely careful to not believe everything you see or hear from everyone, but instead

Take time to pray and ask direction from God on which videos to watch because

In as much as they are all “positive” videos we don’t really know who is really in it for the clout and who really is doing it based on God’s instructions.

Build a relationship with God and he will instruct you on how to move in your journey

One of my favorite quotes I ever heard after being born again was “A Christian’s journey should be personal but not private”

In as much as it is important to show people your Christian journey in the outside world, it is also very important to build a very strong relationship with God because in that way

 He will be able to guide you on what to say and how to really go about things.

Because bear in mind that the guidelines youtubers may post are a just a tiny fraction compared to the guidelines we may receive from God to make this season of our lives even easier.

Build friendships outside of YouTubers.

 Lol what I mean by this is yes, they may make us feel like we have some sort of friendship with them when they reply to our Dms and comments

 But it is also important to come down to reality and realize that they are not always present when we need someone to talk to.

And our conversations with them though maybe impactful, but are very brief and are over a space of weeks, months or even years sometimes

That’s why having friends who live in the same surrounding as us or someone we know is always available to talk with when we need them or pray with during our moments of weakness is vital for every believer.

 So, take time to build church friendships, school friendship or work friendships with people you share the same believe systems with.

It is also important to use scripture as a guideline when you are following someone

 In the sense that is the lifestyle they portray to us align with scripture? Living in purity is just a small part of being a born-again believer.

 Let’s also keep in mind that some people can wait to have sex until they are married for various reasons outside having a relationship with God.

 So, if you are going to subscribe to a Christian vlogger’s channel, make sure that their lifestyle is in full alignment with what the bible says.
